- It's surprising
to me that AOL has launched a new action sports site, lat34.com.
Brings me back to the Hardcloud, Bluetorch, Monster Skate days.
I've
also heard that there are a few other similar sites in the works.
It's 1998 all over again. Doubtful.
- The Pope now drives
a Volvo
- I'm stunned that Neckface continues to gain fame. Vans has teamed
up with him to create a line of shoes and apparel, What I
wouldn't give for a limited Neckdeep canvas era shoe. Lucky bastard.
- I ran across a site documenting a roadtrip
from Los Angeles to Seattle on a 1990 Tomos moped. Top speed
33mph. It's no Gumball. Nuts, completely nuts.

Back from a weekend wedding in San Lois Obispo.
It was a good time but a lot of traveling was involved as
we flew into Oakland, rented a car and drove down there. Around
three and a half hours each way. It was a lot of work.
Top 3 things I miss about the Bay Area:
1. Weather, weather, weather - It was perfect down there this
weekend. Perfect. Never too hot and never too cold. It's hot as
hell here in Portland at 97 degrees. I've never liked the heat
on the east coast...ever. San Francisco has the best weather in
the world (in my opinion).
2. Indian Food - After eating this afternoon at 'Naan and Curry'
I'm bummed on my lack of choices here in PDX. Very little vegan
indian and nothing that has impressed me.
3. Record Stores - I'm in the Bay Area for a total of four hours
and I managed to hit Amoeba, Rasputin and Aquarius. No other area
compares. Period.
I really enjoy my home here in Portland...and that makes up for
a lot. As long as my wife and dog are here I'm good.

- As I sit here and type my brother and his wife and
traveling across the US. And they will be for the next six months.
That’s a long damn time, and a long
damn haul, but they are committed to making it happen. You
can follow their journey on his newly
launched travel site.
- I suppose I should mention the World Cup. If I hadn’t
bailed on the Bay Area to move to PDX I most likely would have
been in Berlin working 14 hour days making sure fifaworldcup.com
was firing on all cylinders. I would have lived in a hotel room
for two months scraping together what vegan food I could and wearing
a tie to impress the Germans. But when I’m watching a great
game and following the commentary on the Match Cast…I do
miss the excitement a bit. And as much as I detest every level
of American patriotism, I’ll be cheering the US tomorrow
morning. I mean, if there has to be a major league sport on television,
my vote is for soccer. Besides, I had the pleasure of meeting
and talking with Eddie
Pope a few months back and he’s a stand up guy.
- I painted up some custom adidas for Go
Skateboarding! Day tomorrow. These
are limited all white canvas Super Skates painted black. I’m
sure they’ll be pretty worn by tomorrow evening. More photos
to come. On that note adidas
launched their skateboard website this week. That Gonz guy
is nuts.

- I started mapping out the location and plans for
the mini ramp in my backyard. It's going to be a ton of work.
I'll have to dig up or destroy five huge bushes and level out
the land before the building even gets started. It'll be worth
it.
- Only three of us showed up for the one month wiegh in for 'Food
Fight Fat Off 2006'. Eight and a half pounds down. Wonder
if I can hit fifteen. I hear some
people are fasting?! It'll never last.
- In the 'TOTAL BULLSHIT' department,
I ran across this. Why the hell is PETA featuring and supporting
P-Rod? The guy has fifteen different colors of leather shoes and
eats meat like a champ. Yeah, he loves his dogs, but does that
mean he's into 'animal rights'? No. Hell, my grandmother loved
her dog and wore fur. EVERYONE loves their pets, the idea is get
beyond that. There are so many skaters that get shit for being
veggie or vegan and have to work hard to find and skate in non-leather
shoes. And this guy is shown as the skate poster child for animal
liberation? Fucking insane. Here's
my posting to PETA and their sorry ass response.
The bottom line here is that if you expect to carry any creditibilty
when you complain and protest against those who abuse and torture
animals...don't praise and support someone who sells leather products
with their name on them and consumes meat and dairy. Stupid.
- The new Maritime
is up there, but that doesn't mean I like it yet. Pitchfork
does.

- My parents have been visiting all week, hence no updates.
They seem to be enjoying Portland but, as always, the weather
is pretty poor. Cloudy with very little sun…so when does
the summer ACTUALLY start here? On Sunday we ventured up to Seattle
for a few days and made the usual tourist stops up there.
- I found out yesterday that my car did not have a shot wheel
bearing but just very, very loose lug nuts on the rear right wheel.
A quick tighten and an oil change and the car is running strong.
Strong enough to travel down to SF, do the 800 mile Melee, and
back up to SF in a few months? We’ll see. I wish I could
come up with a better solution past buying a car in SF sight unseen.
Anyone out there have a solid old sports car they want to unload
in the Bay Area? And then
there’s this. I’d trailer it up there a second.
- Speaking of autos, these are the best
car ads to come out in some time. So, so funny. And it’s
the wood-chipper
guy from Fargo. Bonus.
- I’m also happy to announce that I will be joining Team
adidas next week for the Pharmacy Challenge on Go
Skateboarding Day. It’s on…and we have no chance.

Back to normal...
It seems that yesterday was indeed cursed. While driving back
from Foster Grove in the 912 a terrible banging started in the
left rear hub. It seems that my wheel bearings decided to wear
out 40 minutes outside of Portland. After waiting an hour for
a tow truck and a slow torturous ride home I'm looking at a what
could be a sizable repair bill.
Satan's handy work?

Had
to go evil for 666.
Although I repsect National
Slayer Day, I have to say the most evil, brutal thing I've
heard in a while is 1349.
Good listening for today.
Sculptor Of Flesh - MP3
- Sponge
Bob goes death metal. Pretty perfect. Care of Food Fight.

Lots of bicycle riding this weekend.
On Saturday night we rode into town and checked out the Starlight
Parade. Eh. Although low quality floats and way too many hippies
made for some laughs. Let's hope the Grand
Floral parade is better.
Any city that has a low priced amusement park within bike
riding distance is all right by me. Oak Park looks pretty
great.
Thanks to everyone who wished me a Happy Birthday last week. An
extra thanks to those who hung out on Friday and got
all Funtastic.

- Well, it seems that Jeremy
Enigk’s new solo album will be out this summer just
in time for an east coast tour. He’s also be playing at
Lollapalooza
(?!) and Bumbershoot. Where the hell are the west coast tour dates?
I’m not too excited about traveling to some crummy festival.
- Morrissey is now ‘vegan’ and calling
out Oxford labs? Pretty great…let’s hope he is
actually vegan at this point. Could be.
- Since setting up my new bike I been checking out Fixed
Gear Gallery for daily inspiration. And visit Mike Giant’s
Count
Trackula blog for bikes and amazing tattoos. The guy has skill.
His new shirt company Rebel 8
seems to be doing well.
