- Well, we found out today (after multiple x-rays) that Kato
has three worn and/or slipped discs in her back. It's hard to
say whether or not she'll get better quickly or take time. Either
way her jumping days are over. No more trying to climb trees.
I just hope her yelps of pain become less frequent. It's very
hard to see her hurting so much.
- I'm not sure if anyone has noticed but my blakck metal intake
has increased agreat deal. This is 100% due to
Jason hooking me up with some of the best metal discs I've
heard in years. Insane.
- And speaking of black metal...this is pretty great: Rate
My Corpse Paint.
- This past weekend skateboarding lost a true poineer with the
passing of Fausto
Vitello. This is a man who was part of starting both Independent
Trucks and Thrasher Magazine as well as being a mentor and inspiration
to almost everyone in the Northern California skateboard scene.
Without Mr. Vitello the landscape of skateboarding would be very
different indeed...he will be missed.

At roughtly 7:45 this morning Kato was laying on our bed and
I had just gotten out of the shower. Out of no where she starts
shaking a bit and letting out these high pitch yelps. This went
on for about 20 seconds.
Jessica was laying right next to her and tried to figure out what
was hurting her as well as calm her down. The yelping stopped
and Kato just laid there. Her eyes couldn't seem to focus and
she didn't want to move. I ran and got the phonebook, called a
24 hour vet hospital and scooped her up and ran to the car.
All I could think of was that my dog just had a stroke.
As we drove to the hospital she started to become more responsive
on my lap. She started to focus on us more, began moving and even
yawned and looked around.
When we got to the hospital she could stand up and walk around.
The vet tech said it looked like she had a seizure. We were able
to walk her into a clinic room and wait for the head of medicine.
By this time she was alert, fully awake and acting pretty close
to normal.
The second vet did some test and said that he believed she had
a small maul seizure. Middle age to older dogs sometimes have
these. We were to just keep an eye on her and she should be fine.
We walked out with a happy, normal dog.
Now I'm sitting at the airport and Jess is taking care of a pretty
freaked out Kato. She seems a bit stunned and very tired but it
looks like she's going to be fine.
Man, that was frightening...the vet said this can be a one time
thing. Let's hope so.

- 100 years ago today the great earthquake hit
San Francisco. The footage on the news is almost hard to watch.
It's unreal that the city rebuilt and prospered. I'm proud to
have lived there...it's an amazing city and I miss being part
of it.
- Hey look! Chad and Emiko are on featured on the Inked
Blog. Chad's tattoo is even better in person.

Traveling to and from Portland via air is not fun. There simply
aren't enough direct flights. Sitting in Denver and Chicago was
awful.
Hightlights yesterday included getting out to Coney Island to
take in the Side
Show and ride the Cyclone
(check out Frank's
photos) as well as revewing the large volume of photos we've
got so far for our site build. It'll only get better from here.
It's good to be back...I'm off to Philly on Thursday to visit
my parents and hit Carlisle. I'm going to have to get another
book ro something. Not looking forward to flying.

So far this trip has been kind of a bust for me. We got some
decent footage yesterday for our site build, but the rain was
a drag. I didn't have the energy for any night activity. Hopefully
today will be better...but I'm not holding my breath.

You can't beat the Wi-Fi at PDX Airport. Checking work emails
is a drag, but it certainly makes the time pass quicker than a
magazine.
I'm about to board a plane for a photo shoot in NYC. Nothing like
traveling with a skateboard at age 32. The security people always
look a bit puzzled. Nope, there's no kid bringing up the rear.

An
Inconvenient Truth - This does seem like a pretty frightening
movie. Let's hope it opens in a lot of theaters.

- After living here in Portland since the first week of January
I finally was able to visit a skatepark. Although it looked like
rain we took a chance and spent more than a few hours at Newberg
this afternoon. It's about time.
- After ordering 'The
Importance Of Being Morrissey' BBC documentary on EBay and
never getting it, I was stoked to see the program appear on You
Tube in four parts. I spent this morning watching it and it's
by far the best Morrissey piece I've ever seen. If you haven't
seen it, it's worth the hour of your time.
Part One.
Part Two.
Part Three.
Part Four.

- The next few weeks are looking busy with two trips to the
east coast...one to NYC and one to Philadelphia. Racjing up those
frequent flier miles.
- Today I got my limited edition Peter
Beste book in the mail as well as a signed print. I've been
a fan of his work for a long while, so it's going to be nice to
hang a piece of his.
- Speaking of metal, I recently ran across A
Blaze In The NJ Sky. Clever title and some solid writing.
- The Salton Sea
is a great film

- Last night I saw
Thank You For Smoking. Great film. The opening titles were
some of the best designed I can remember. It's amazing to think
about how close the story is to the truth. All the performances
were great (David
Koechner is always good) but casting Sam
Elliot as the cancer stricten Marlbaro man was perfect. Katie
Holmes is just plan creepy. It's hard to to watch her sex scenes
without thinking of Tom Cruise and the Scientologists pouring
over every detail for approval.
- I also went on interesting test drive yesterday. TOm and I went
to Gran Prix Imports to
test drive a 1970
911T. The car turned out to be pretty rough. After a 20 minute
test drive we got out and could smell smoke. It turned out to
be oil POURING onto the exhaust and burning. We opened the deck
lid to reveal oil spraying out of the engine and pooling up. Needless
to say no purchase was made. And speaking of cars I just purchased
my plane tickets to travel back east to attend Spring
Carlisle.
- I'm officially a yard owner...I just bought a lawn
mower.
