Dark Days.

It's getting cold. It gets dark at 4:30. Right now it's not raining...but give it time. And now have to look for a job. Fantastic. Seems like a good time to dive back into listening to more appropriate music. Out comes the black metal.

And speaking of black metal, if you haven't seen Peter Beste's book, True Norwegian Black Metal, you need to. It's amazing. Buy it here. I bought a copy of the early Japanese version and I'm also the proud owner of an original print. Here's a piece on Mr. Beste from LA WEEKLY, Images Of Satan, as sent in by Aaron.

Laid Off.

After being part of the dot com bubble burst in 2000 (here's my entry from that job loss) AND losing my design company in the wake of 9/11 I figured I would HAVE to be past all that misfortune by now. Nope, no such luck, as I got the axe from my large agency job that specifically I picked over freelance or a small agency in thinking it would be more stable. The joke's on me I guess. Thing is, I have a mortgage and a kid now.

Not so funny any more.

Assorted.

- Jerry Yang has agreed to step down as Yahoo!'s CEO. Wall Street seems to be happy about this as their stock has jumped since the announcement. Very good move. As crazy as it seems I still support Yahoo! enough to hope that they DO get picked up by Microsoft. It would be good for both parties. And I also hope Sue Decker takes the CEO gig. She's smart, has proven herself and rides a motorcycle. I know from experience.

- I'm not a fan of many new motorbikes, but this BMW concept looks pretty damn cool. I'm sure it will cost an arm and leg.

- And speaking of amazing motorcycles, take in this 1955 BSA Cafe Racer. Already out of my price range...I wish I had the cash.

- AND SCREW GM. We're now rewarding companies for ignoring their market, having an jerk as a CEO and making huge mistakes? Not fair says I. I've been in a few sinking ships business wise and no one was there to throw us a bunch of money. I KNOW that the economy is at stake but the airlines went into bankruptcy and that wasn't the end of the world. Maybe if your product was better and your management smarter you won't be in this mess. We as tax payers owe you nothing.

AVAIL. Again.

I'm guessing this documentary has been shelved...but man, would I love to see this get completed and released.

Jade Tree has re-released Dixie, 4AM Friday and Over The James with remastered tracks and new liner notes. Me, I'll stick with the CDs I had the fucking DAY they were released.

I'm guessing I've done 20 Avail posts over the many years this site has been around. Damn right. They will never get enough credit as a band. I was so lucky to see them so many times. The best. I'm getting an Avail tattoo.

Carpathian, Isolation.

Overflowing with hatred, I cannot contain me, I erupt
I feel violent, volatile, on the verge of destruction
So lost inside myself, it resonates this beating against my head and heart
So lost inside myself, it isolates as routine bites hard

This downward spiral, this endless circle, this solitude
I am nothing, I am permanence.

Yes.

Buy A SKATEDAILY.net Shirt.

Bryce and I have been doing SKATEDAILY.net for close to five years now. After a ton of work I'm proud to announce the launch the first in our series of T-Shirts.

I'm also incredibly honored that Andy Jenkins created the artwork for the first shirt in series. I've been a fan of Andy's work dating back to his work at Freestylin' magazine, Club Homeboy and Wrench Pilot (and DIRT and on and on). Currently he's the creative mastermind behind the amazing design work and the Girl / Chocolate empire and The Art Dump. You can also follow his work via the fantastic Bend Press website. Thank you Andy for starting this venture off right.

So check out the shirt above as well as a logo T and out sticker and button pack. All the shirts are 100% organic cotton and we worked hard to find a soft shirt we would be proud to both wear and sell.

And thanks to anyone and everyone who has visited the site over the years. It's been fun so far.

MtvM.

For years Mtv has been a joke. Videos? Not anymore. But now there's mtvmusic.com (beta). The goal is to have every video ever played on the channel reasy to view. And no commericals to speak of. Woah.

And I have to say, the design is very well done. It's simple and the search results are very well organized and easy to navigate.
I'm not about to sign up for another damn community, but I was browsing some users and it tracks your video plays and activity sort of like last fm, which is prety cool.

Just a sample of what I was checking out (don't judge):
Eric B And Rakim - Follow The Leader
Beastie Boys - She's On It
Digital Underground - The Humpty Dance
The Smiths - The Boy With A Thorn In His Side
Do Me - Bell Biv Devoe (found while searching for Devo. Bell Biv Devo?)
Weird Al Yankovic - Fat
Go Let It Out - Oasis
Public Enemy - Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos (BEST EVER.)

The Next Morning.

As I was walking to work this morning an older black woman (who was headed for the woman's only shelter a few feet away) was walking towards me. I noticed she was smiling and sort of singing. As she got closer to me she stopped, turned to me and said in almost a whisper,"Obama WON...". I just stood there not sure what to say and just smiled. She continued down the sidewalk and started whistling.

Finally.

I'm stunned...and I've never been so happy to be wrong. America has spoken and a black cloud has been lifted. Let's hope this historic act will begin the healing after the terrible things we've done as a nation these past eight years. Good luck Barack, we are all starving for change...and hope.

48 Hours.

We could know who our next President is in 48 hours. Insane. I still say it's anyone's race. You just never know. On November 2, 2004 I posted this:

Kerry was a shoe-in, remember? There seemed there was no way that Bush was capible of getting a second term. America was fed up with the war, lies and his stupidity, right?

Wrong. November third's post:

Fingers crossed. As everyone in the country has already said, get out and vote. And if you live in a swing state please do whatever you can to get your vote cast. History making or the same old shit...we all decide.

Roadside Prophets.

One of my favorite films. Worth a watch if you've never seen it. Sort of a sleeper that gets better with age.
