Enjoy the holiday.
The real story behind the first Thanksgiving.

Featured + Spike Jonze - How They Get There - This is the short film that's one of the bonuses to his DVD. Featuring Mark Gonzales (5.1mgs)

l Tuesday - November 25 - 1:35pm

You've seen the Yeah Right! video, now check out the trailer. (It's actually very well done...and 4.9mgs)

On the other hand, Crailtap has gone from bad to flat out terrible. Sorry, but it's just worthless. The design is awful, and the content is even worse. Does anyone give a shit about the snack machine at Girl or enjoy reading the 'web master' kiss his own ass? Make no mistake, Girl is fantastic company and it's art is top notch...but remember when the site was good? Now it's an insider's hand job.

l Monday - November 24 - 8:24am

The 'Now & Then' Show presented by Stereo Skateboards on Saturday night was very good. It was great to see a complete collection of the original Stereo boards and magazine ads. The photography of Jason Lee was pretty impressive as well. It was also my first visit to the impressive Varnish Gallery, which is a beautiful space to view art.

Joe Kid on a Stringray - The History of BMX - 24mgs
(link found at Bend Press)

This film looks like the Dogtown and Z-Boyz of BMX. Could be very fun. Before I was allowed to skateboard (my Dad banned it from my household for many years) I rode BMX and Freestyle. I ended up ditching the bike for a board, but I got really into flatland from 1986-87.

Listen + Death Cab For Cutie - Forbidden Love EP

l Monday - November 17 - 4:42pm l

I've been sick for quite a while now...finally kicked a fever yesterday. Not fun at all.

Dissappointing.

That pretty much sums up Mars Volta last night at the Fillmore. I suppose if I were stoned, or enjoyed 25-45 minute rambling 'space jams' it might have been my thing. Play a fucking song already! Yeah, it's fun to watch Cedric and Omar do the crazy dances...but I saw better, and more passionate dancing during their At The Drive In days. By the time they got to playing 'Take The Veil' (which they didn't even play in it's entirety) I was just fed up. The album is certainly one of the year's best...but live...what a let down. It looked like the band enjoyed themselves, and that stoned dude dancing next to us (the male version of Elaine) was certainly stoked.

l Monday - November 10 - 2:27pm l

- The new Joe Sorren book is quite beautiful...I have to pick up a copy.

- It's nice to see a new snowboard magazine out there (with Scooter from HardCloud)...and I'm still waiting for my Frequency subscription to kick in.

- Brand new issue of This Is A Magazine, online now.

-
I'm sure sure if Wesley Clark will get my vote next year, but his commerical gets my vote in the Rock The Vote video contest. Smart and funny.

I'm all set to get more tattoo work on Saturday...looking forward to it.

Watch + David Cross - Let America Laugh

l Friday - November 7 - 9:04am l

Some seriously great old school rap videos up in here (link found on Catchdubs). Eric B installing Gucci interior in his Rolls followed by 'Microphone Fiend'?! Word. 'Talkin All That Jazz' by Stetsasonic? All time.

I've been listening to 1992 album, Tricks of The Shade by the very overlooked hip hop trio, The Goats almost daily. Few have heard of this trio from Philly who merged live instruments, samples, and most importantly politics into their rhymes. I stumbled across their album when it came in as a promo copy to the record store where I was working. Burnt on hip-hop of the time (OK, the first Pharcyde album was good) and listening to politically charged hardcore, I was instantly a fan. I was lucky enough to catch them live at the old 9:30 Club, where they destroyed the place. Very few hip hop groups would title a song 'Burn The Flag' at that time, or bash both Columbus Day and Bush Sr. Their skills were tight and their politics were fierce. I can honestly say that 'Tricks' was the last hip hop album I was completely taken by.

I 'Googled' a few things and ran across this Goats site which the band (?) created in 2001. It contains an unreleased song, other MP3s, and some interesting information and images.

I've posted a few songs on the Playlist, as Tricks of the Shade has been out of print for a while. Comb the used bins and pick up a copy.

l Wednesday - November 5 - 8:59am l

- Herbivore Clothing has been redesigned. Nice work.

- This tribute to the late activist Barry Horne is certainly worth taking a look at.

- True Till Death has reprinted two classic Shism Records shirts. I'm a sucker for this stuff.

- Burton releases the Amp pack wired for your iPod, in addtion to two iPod centered jackets....the Shield and the Ronin 2L. Pretty trick.

l Monday - November 3 - 3:42pm l

I've been too burnt (and too bummed) to post any sort of overview of the whole San Francisco majoral election. Thanks to Bob Redshifter who does a damn fine job of breaking it all down for you. Please read, then vote accordingly. Thanks Bob.

l 9:21am l
If you live in SF, vote Matt Gonzales for mayor in tomorrow's election.
