Now this film looks interesting. Next Friday it's all about Knocked Up.

This Sony Bravia commercial made my day .

It may sound strange and almost silly, but watching this spot just makes me so calm and happy. Just to sit, turn up the volume and watch it a few times makes me smile. Past being an advertisement, I would say it's an inspiring piece of film making from a simple and brillant idea. The music is beautiful and works perfectly with the visuals. Plus, San Francisco is such a stunning city.

Watch the behind the scene footage as well, but watch the full ad first.

I was first sent the link to Sony's newer paint ad...which is damn cool, but doesn't have the depth and beauty of the 'Balls' spot.

- So Farmer and his crew one upped me and my Moz experience in Seattle by hitting the stage in force and getting hugs in at the Columbus show. In fact Farmer kissed Morrissey on the check. Damn. Here's a video of Patrick 'Epicly Later'd' O'Dell getting a hug in. Wow. In my defense I was VERY happy with a few solid handshakes and stage side interaction. But maybe next show...

- Does any one make a decent bicycle helmet that doesn't look silly? Answer: No.

- HOLY. CRAP. (check out the 'exclusive' trailer)

- A Johnny Marr signature shoe? And it's fucking leather? Guess we know that 'Meat Is Murder' never really stuck with him. Bummer that.

Thanks to everyone who emailed, phoned and IM'd me about Tom's condition. He appriciates all the positive thoughts and well wishers. I visited him this afternoon and he's doing well...resting and in good spirits as he awaits word on if he'll have to have surgery.

He should be home and feeling better by the weekend.

+ 8:40am +

My good friend Tom was hit by a drunk driver while riding his bicycle home from work yesterday. After seeing a photo of the accident scene it's amazing that he JUST broke a bone in his back. Fingers crossed he's not going to need surgery.

Very few bike riders in PDX wear helmets...but now I'm in the market for one. Please be careful out there.

And fuck drunk drivers. If you are going to drink...don't get in a fucking car.

Jerry Faldwell dead at 73...here are a few classic quotes:

"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being."

"The idea that religion and politics don't mix was invented by the Devil to keep Christians from running their own country."

"AIDS is not just God's punishment for homosexuals; it is God's punishment for the society that tolerates homosexuals."

And let's hear it for my favorite a few days after 9-11:
"I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians ... all of them who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say: you helped this happen,"

What a kind, tolerant man...good fucking riddence.

Due to the rising popularity in track bikes the whole bike courier lifestyle seems to be getting more attention. This video does a pretty good job of breaking it down.

Back in 1991 I started making deliveries on my bike in Washington DC for the Georgetown Burrito Brothers. I would also deliver for the Dupont Circle location as well. Now both are gone...with only one in Capital Hill remaining. I did this off and on for close to two years. Back then there was only one place to get a real messenger bag in the DC area, and there were more lifers than hipsters on bikes.

I also ran for a bit as a true courier (around Capital Hill and Congress) but got a better job at a record store after a few weeks. I loved riding but the couriers at that time were all about getting drunk and stoned while they worked...so most of the guys just pissed me off. I remember my friend John getting a fixed gear in 95' and trying to get used to riding it around DuPont Circle...and thinking he was nuts.

Sunday, May 6th, Morrissey

We arrived at The Paramount at around 8:50pm to see the same pre-concert movie/video show happening as in Pasadena. As Jess and I took our seats the James Dean screen test I'd seen twice before was playing in silence. It was pretty incredible to be just two rows back...although I was bummed to see a small 'VIP' area in front of the main rows. It contained two small rows of folding chairs at the edge of the stage with a short metal barrier behind. What this really meant was that I wouldn't be right at the stage.

The lights went down and the row in front of us immediately jumped up to the front of the barrier. A guy sitting next to us, who we briefly chatted with, quickly jumped the barrier and took two steps to be right at the stage edge. He was also lucky enough not to be pulled by security as they swept the small area quickly, asking for passes. We stood at the edge of the barrier, about six feet from the stage, for three songs and were then told we had to move back. It wasn't a big deal as the crowd was super mellow and no one was in front of us. It was almost better...as we had roughly 10 feet to the stage with 4 of it being clear of people...perfect view.

Morrissey was in good form, joking about Seattle and doing the usual stage banter. It was amazing to be right there, it felt like he was playing for the fifty of us up front...until I turned around and saw the sold out crowd behind me.

Half way through 'A Boy With A Thorn in His Side' Moz stopped the song due to sound problems. Throughout the set he had been complaining about not hearing himself in the monitors. The song was never finished and it took him a a few songs to get back in form...which he did.

After the first song in the encore I quickly jumped the barrier and ran up to the edge of the stage. A few of us stretched out our hands and Moz grabbed mine and held it for a solid few seconds, making eye contact in the process. Pretty exciting. I stayed stage side for a bit and watched a few failed stage invasion attempts. Within minutes the last song was over, Morrissey slipped away and the band exited as well...Boz slapping a few of our hands as he left.

Not a bad night.

You can check out an amazing set of photos taking at the Seattle gig here...set list and more details here.

For even more photos, check out these taken by Flavio, a really cool guy I met at the Pasadena gigs. He flew out from Boston to attend the first four shows of this tour. These really capture the front row experience. I was reading that security was tight and cameras were tough to get in...but we weren't even frisked in Seattle. Bummer.

- Back this week from a quick east coast trip. The Porsche swap meet in Hershey, PA was pretty good. Not a ton of parts (ebay sort of destroys the whole process of buying parts in person), but certainly a HUGE amount of cars to check out. 912s were everywhere and fetching large amounts of money. I got a lot of photos...and here they are.

- Morrissey this Sunday in Seattle. The set lists for the shows so far have been amazing. Very much looking forward to it. I don't think I'll make it on stage, but a handshake would be nice.
