The Chris Farley Show

I recently finished reading The Chris Farley Show, A Biography In Three Acts. As you might expect it spans the life and career of comic Chris Farley. I was a fan of Farley for sure. In fact, I remember seeing the famous Chippendales sketch the first time it aired in 1991 and just being hooked. I saw every movie he even made in the theater. Yes, that includes Almost Heroes. In fact, a friend traveled for a visit and we made a point of seeing the first showing on the Friday it opened as a tribute. We were the only ones in the theater. And I still have the Entertainment Weekly with his death as the cover story.

There's no question it's a great book but be warned, it's not a pretty picture. It's a brutally honest account and I was floored by the substance abuse problems Farley had and just how horrible his addictions were. It's such a strong portrait that it's hard for me to watch him now and not just feel empty. I caught some of Tommy Boy this weekend and it's not the same silly movie for me anymore. Hopefully I'll be able to laugh at him in time...but it's going to take a while.

Another Wednesday Night At PIR

It was yet another great Wednesday night at PIR with the most cars I've even seen in attendence. I had the good fortune to attend with Clyde, John and Guy. Guy is the proud builder and owner of what could be my favorite car that has ever graced the lawn at PIR. I was proud to have my Porsche parked next to his perfect Ford roadster. Clyde's Pontiac wagon is to the left of the Ford and John's Old's is directly behind.

This was also the week of the 'bad vanity license plate'. They were everywhere. Here's one of the worst on a shitty, leather tassled, cookie cutter, Wild Hog Harley:

+ Devo sues McDonalds - ""They didn't ask us anything. Plus, we don't like McDonald's, and we don't like American Idol, so we're doubly offended." Truer words never spoken. I second that. Take em' to the cleaners.

+ I have to say...after watching the full trailer I'm backing Wall-E.

That Mitchell And Webb Look

Right now the only TV show I care to watch every week is That Mitchell And Webb Look which airs Friday nights on BBC America. Past seeing spots during Top Gear, I caught an interview with David Mitchell on the always worth while Sound Of Young America. The first show I watched blew me away and I've been addicted ever since. Damn funny stuff. Also, Mitchell and Webb are the stars(?) of the UK versions of the 'I'm a Mac and I'm a PC" commericals.

The first time I saw the sketch I've placed below had me flat out crying. I can't remember the last time I just could. not. stop. laughing.

George Carlin 1937 - 2008

Man, we've lost one of the great ones. Carlin certainly laid the foundation for modern comedy. He was also one of the only comedians who openly mocked and made fun of religion, materialism and the american population as a whole. Ground breaking and prolific (14 HBO specials!) no one will take his place.

Check out 'Religion Is Bullshit' . Genius and oh, so true.

What The Hell?

This Wednesday night I drove over to the PIR / Beaches car show. Overall pretty good, but I'm sure it will grow larger as the weather improves. Chris Jury's 912 is looking very nice and there were more than a few nice cars in the group.

Then I saw this thing pull in...

Yeah, it's a replica (the interior was almost as bad)...but what the hell is up with those terrible flames?! On a Speedster? It looks SO foolish. It's hard to see here but he also had 'David Smith Designs' or some garbage written on the lower half of the door. And white walls? Way to just RUIN what could be a decent car.

There was only one person who get could pull-off flaming out a european sports car and he's long gone...

Von Dutch flamed out this 300 SL Gullwing in the mid 50's and changed the world of car customizing forever. This is regarded as the first all over flame job in history. Plus, on a 300 SL?! Unreal.

Let's leave the flaming to the experts please.

Half Ass Post

+ I've been swamped with work this week but have a few things I wanted to post...videos, videos videos.

+ This film looks FUCKING brillant. Man, I'm excited.

+ Then there's this...I'm thought I was over Ferrell at this point but I have to say, this looks damn good. "Let the dirt just shower over you."

"This house is a prison. On planet bullshit. In the galaxy of this sucks camel dicks."

Have A Nice Life.

Thanks to Aversion for introducing me to this one. Pretty overwhelming stuff here. For me, this is the perfect mix of music I obsess over and that rare album that had me 'all-in' on first listen. Woah, so, SO good. But I'm way behind in this discovery. Do a quick search and read up on all the 'internet buzz'. I'll start: here's an interesting interview.

+ I guess I don't have to tell you Obama is going all the way? Amazing. And this recent news from Hilliary is icing on the cake (for me anyway). I'm very much looking forward to the fall. Change is coming.

Summer? Well, Show Season At Least.

I ran across this Flickr set (and image above) from Red Fern over on the 912 Boards. They were taken at the Partsheaven all-Porsche Swap Meet and Concours, in Hayward, CA, this past weekend. Certainly some serious eye candy in terms of amazing car and the image style. Very cool. I used to attend this show when I lived in the area. Always a good turn out.

+ It has been pissing rain since Sunday...it might have cleared by now. In any case, the first Wednesday night car show at PIR is tomorrow. We'll see if it's dry.

+ I knew there had to be a site like this out there...Photoshop Disasters certainly sucks you in. Man, people designers sure are dumb.

+ Yup, I just ordered myself a case of Herr's Ketchup Chips. Worth every penny.

Sometimes You Tube just serves up gold....
