l Wednesday - July 30 - 9:44am l

I watched the entire Bush press conference. First thought: what a dumb bastard. It's really amazing that the President of the United States can be such a poor public speaker. After the very FIRST question, which had four parts, he said he was getting old and couldn't really follow such a complex question. Great, the man who is supposed to be the leader of the free world has trouble with multi-point questions about his job.

-

" I think this is a shallow recession..."

Shallow? From what I've read a 'shallow recession' by definition lasts roughly a year at most, and are easier to recover from (a shallow recovery). We're hitting over two years now. Every month, 100,000+ new people enter the American labor force looking for jobs, and that number is growing...doesn't seem "shallow" to me.

-

"I am mindful that we're all sinners and I caution those who may try to take a speck out of the neighbor's eye when they got a log in their own," the president said. "I think it is important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts."

Great...quote the bible as you talk about how you don't support homosexually. We're all sinners (some of us lie a lot, wait is that a sin?), so I guess those homosexuals are no exception. Sinners. And some people believe he doesn't mix his personal religous beliefs with his role in office?

-

Bush said the United States must sort through "literally miles of documents" to learn the truth of whether Saddam's regime had ties to al-Qaida and details about its weapons programs. "We've been there for 90 days," he said.

So it was fine to use that possible connection as a rally cry for war because it MAY be in miles of documents we have yet to find in any form? I thought it was innocent until proven guilty, not the other way around. Does this mean I can go out and beat up someone on the street (and pursude others to do the same) and just claim that he MIGHT have been a possible threat to me? I mean, until the proof is presented, back off...give me 3 or 4 months. In the meantime, keep punching...

-

I could go on...I also like how he called California "the California"...and...oh, forget it...

'LIMP BIZKIT stormed off stage over the weekend, after being pelted with plastic bottles, boos and chants of 'Fuck off FRED DURST'.

So did anyone boo Metallica or Mudvayne? Linkin Park?I think it's a fair question...

Here's a new Dillinger Escape Plan Song (Real Audio needed). Amazingly enough I'll be in New York to catch their Take Action benefit show at Irving Plaza. I somehow lucked out...the ticket has been bought.

From Monument To Masses played incredibly well Friday night. Solid, tight, and very loud. Catch them when they play your town. Check the dates here.

Watched the new DC Video yesterday. I was expecting to be blown away by Danny Way's part...and I was impressed and everything...but I just can't get past how much of a jackass homophobe he is (see various Big Brother interviews and his part in beating of a gay man to death in LA) to enjoy his skating. The highlight for me was Rob Drydek's part with his own skate security guard 'Big Black'. Great idea and some insane skating...

I'm certainly not the first to say this (nor the last), but the VH-1 200 Greatest Pop Culture list is total crap. Bruce Lee is number 141! 141! And Britney Spears is 20...with Jennifer Lopez at 15?! Those two are timeless icons? And don't even look at number one. Bruce Lee at 141!? Penny Marshall is 94?! Worthless.

Did I mention Bruce Lee's ranking? 141!

What is the deal with this? Tylenol is trying to create some sort of Crailtap (don't mistake this for a Crailtap endorsement...that site sucks as well) meets sales tool. 'Bags Hurt'? They do? I'm not sure if Lewman still checks out this site, but if you're out there Mark...what's up with the Bleeding Edge?Ouch.

In similar news, Grind the movie now has a website that has actors talking about the importance of skateboarding...

"Just now we're seeing people taking to it (skateboarding)...it's like the 7, 8, 9, 10 year olds who are like TOTALLY taking to it right now...it's like the very, very beginning of that taking off."
- Jennifer Morrison

WHAT THE FUCK? Yeah, thank goodness skateboarding is finally starting to catch on now. Thanks Jennifer for letting us know. Someone get this girl (who is just eye candy in another shitty summer teen film) a copy of the Dogtown documentary. Then tell the film makers they are clueless hacks. Unreal.

l Sunday - July 20 - 7:35pm l

This has been one of the most hectic weeks I can remember. People fired, people hired (both for the better), and deadlines that really tested my limits. I'm thankful it's all over....until tomorrow morning.

- This makes me question humanity. Poisoning dogs over leash laws? My good friend lives right next to one of the parks in Portland and won't take his dog out until all of this blows over. I hope they catch whoever is responsible...and fast. Also, if you live in Portland and have a dog (Chad? Tom?) maybe your photo is posted here...

- I have always thought about getting a tattoo of the Matt Hensley double kick board graphic (sometimes called 'Rays of Light'). This guy beat me to it in a big way.

Pat Robertson's latest campaign, Operation Supreme Court Freedom, actually encourages people to 'pray' for the poor health (and mentions both cancer and heart problems) of supreme court justices. How very kind and caring. I suppose Jesus would wish sickness on those he disagreed with? The man is human garbage. (Didn't I call him that before? Oh, yeah...it was when Robertson and his pal Faldwell blamed gays, feminists, and abortion rights supporters for the September 11th attacks just days afterwards. 'God gave us what we deserve' Remember that?)

Write him an email and remind him of the separation of church and state. Also, remind him that he is a hateful, sad, jackass who is an insult to humanity. Just for good measure.

New York City July 10-13th...

Positives
+ Meeting up with Sue and catching up.
+ Carrot dressing from Jaffa Cafe in the East Village.
+ Spying Al Franken in shorts, and in a rush.
+ The Soho Apple store.
+ Lemon Ice Tea Snapple everywhere

Negatives
- The heat...screw the humidity.
- Air travel.
- Supreme, alife, and the other stupid 'high-end' cool guy / graf / skate / toy / hip-hop stores that pepper the East Village and Soho area. I'm going to open a neckdeep store that is open for 4 hours a day, has sales people who insult you, and sell the following: shitty paint markered sneakers for 150 bucks, a 'custom' neckdeep Kubrick (or Bearbrick), and poorly designed limited edition T-Shirts for 40-50 bucks each. I expect the Japanese kids to line up early.

Ozzy - 'We made mistakes with Jack'...really? I thought that after snorting ants, almost killing your wife, and turning yourself into a mumbling fool would have given you some insight on the dangers of drugs and booze. Guess not.

Had a great skate session yesterday morning at the Berkeley park with Bryce and Ron Allen.

Ron is the man. Running skate camps, starting an independent skate deck company, and having fun everyday skateboarding. I felt honored just to sit and talk to him. Watch Ron's footage in Shackle Me Not sometime...that video changed everything.

Well, I gave it a try. I went with Bryce last night to The Mars Volta show to see if I could somehow get a plus-one tickets along with his photo pass. No dice. There was a line around the corner and a 'COMPLETELY Sold Out' hand-drawn sign in the ticket window. Damn it. I'm looking forward to seeing photos.

Metallica and The Peppers' (dude) don't support iTunes and the 'demise of the album format'. Could it be that after hearing one track the smart listener won't be willing to pay for their whole crappy full length? Or are they just greedy fucks? Probably both.

Nah, there's really no reason to label cloned meat and milk. It's probably fine.
