Fred
'Mister' Rogers...a man who made an impact on every kid who watched
him. RIP.
I'm off to the east coast to brave the cold weather and my brother's wedding
shower.

A new film from Christopher Guest, A
Mighty Wind.
It looks damn funny, but it is a bit strange that it's pretty much the
EXACT cast as Best In Show
(and Waiting For Guffman)...playing
roles that even seem similar. I'll still see it.
l 9:01am l
Well, that was fun. Neckdeep.net was down for a
little over 12 hours because there was a lapse in payment for server costs.
Funny, I never received an email or phone call. I guess that would have
been too easy.
In 1996 I was working at Discovery
Channel Online and was lucky enough to be a part of a team working
on a massive online feature about the Titanic.
At the time a team was getting images for the first time of the ship since
it had sunk. The digital images were sent directly to me from
their dive team. It was incredible to be one of the first people to
ever see those images. Because of that experience I read up every aspect
of the Titanic and became really interested in the story and history.
Later that next year, James Cameron's movie came out. I thought it was
crap. Sappy, Leo filled crap.
Now Cameron has created another Titanic film, Ghosts
of the Abyss. This time it seems be more of a documentary than fictional
adventure film. It's also being presented in IMAX 3D which should be pretty
stunning. He let me down before (and still could with these cheesy 'ghost'
scenes in the preview),
but I'm pretty excited about this. The film opens April 11th.

I've been a bit too busy to add anything of substance
up here lately. Work has been a bit stressful, and I'm getting ready to
visit the east coast this weekend. Hopefully I can blow off a little steam
at the Terror
show tomorrow night.

Channel surfing I come
across a commercial with a kid skating at the Vans Orange County skatepark.
He starts talking about making decisions and living life...all the while
showing images of handrails and pool skating. At the end of this incredibly
vague spot GravityTeen.com flashes
on the screen. I walk over to my computer and type it in.
It turns out to be a pro-life website...complete with images of dead babies
and stories of teenage age girls committing suicide just two clicks in.
Am I the only one that thinks that advertising like this is unfair and
manipulative? Don't use my sport to trick kids into viewing your garbage.
It's just a dirty bait and switch tactic.
(I debated even posting this...as I don't even want to drive traffic to
these fuckers...)

Regardless of your views on the potential war In
Iraq, this is certainly an
interesting video to watch. (as seen on Newstoday).
I have to agree that most people protesting are pretty clueless about
crucial issues. In my opinion, it really hurts the cause and sends the
WRONG message.
I will say that Bush continues to be a horrible leader, and although he
may not personally be EVIL, most of his policies are.

This
is truly a tragedy. I watched Dillinger

Hardcore greats Converge
have posted three videos
from their upcoming DVD on their site. Good
stuff. You can preorder the DVD now over at Deathwish.
Stealing more links from the Converge site, here's an
interesting article on 20/20's take on straight edge with an interviews
with Jake and a few others. I really feel Jake's definition of straight
edge really hits the nail on the head.

For some reason this has been movie weekend.
On DVD, I caught About a Boy
and The Clash documentary West
Way to the World. About a Boy was really good. I was surprised that
I enjoyed Huge Grant as I normally think he plays sappy crap. Clever story
by Nick Hornby and great work by the young Nicholas Hoult. West Way on
the another hand was incredibly disappointing. Just flat and stale. It
actually made me less excited about The Clash. They seemed to explain
the start of the band quite poorly and the film never lead anywhere exciting
or surprising. I was impressed they played New York City for 17 nights
in a row in 1987 to make sure everyoine who bought tickets for an extremely
over sold show could see them...but other than that I was a bit bored.
On a similar note, there's a Clash tribute show next month with some great
San Francisco bands...I created the flyer
art.
Last night Jess and I attended a Sneak Preview of Old
School. Holy shit. So damn funny. Finally after horrible films like
Night At The Roxbury and Ladies Man Will
Ferrell gets a role that really lets him shine. Vince Vaughn is genius
as well. Check out the well
designed website for great clips from the film as well as some lengthy
interviews. So good.
I
may try to check out Confessions of a Dangerous Mind this afternoon...I
can't stop now.

An interesting "health"
link from Ivo. Break out
the red meat and brew an entire pot of coffee (and screw water)....because
vegetarians die younger!
On Talk of the Nation
yesterday they had a discussion with Matthew Scully, a conservative speech
writer for President Bush who promotes the vegetarian lifestyle from a
moral, Christian point of view. Scroll
down the page to listen. His book Dominion:
"The Power of Man, the Suffering of Animals, and the Call to Mercy"
sounds interesting...a conservative for animal rights?
I'm working like crazy. That is all.

Spent the last few days hanging out with Andrew and
his brother Matt, here from the DC area. I can't say the snow on Friday
was great...but it was nice to get some turns in at Alpine Meadows. Did
some work Sunday then took the bike out for a long ride...it was a beautiful
day in SF. Now it's back to the grind...super.

In the past week I've been visiting a ton of right
wing blogs, just checking out some other opinions on this whole impending
war deal. These guys are pissed off. Comment boards are just mud slinging
and back slapping in agreement. It seems that liberals ignore the right
a bit more and just state their beliefs regardless...while the right go
out of their way to bash everyone who thinks differently from them rather
then let their thoughts stand alone. Meaning they rip into those they
disagree with, rather than just sighting examples of people they do agree
with. Anyway, it's always good to look at both sides. Just don't try to
debate an issue in a comment board...it just gets ugly quick.

Norman' Schwarzkopf (who seems to be skeptical)

Finishing up a really
good weekend with a bit of a cold.
Chad & Emiko, and Josh
spent the weekend here to attend VegFair.
It was super fun. It was hard to believe I hadn't seen Chad in 6 years...and
I had never met Emiko or Josh. All amazing people. Afternoon at the Fair,
and dinner at Millennium
Restaurant. Good times...good times.
