I'm really looking forward to the rest of this series. I used to love snowboarding so much. So, so much.
It's great to see Damien Sanders get the respect he deserves. Shameless Trivia: I designed the graphics on his final pro-model board.
August 25, 2008 : 9:46am Skeptical.
I'm trying not to be too negative, but I'm just seeing this election falling back into the same old pattern. Obviously I'm still excited to get Bush the hell out and the choice is obvious...but I'm less and less inspired. In all honestly how much 'change' is really happening? Is it even possible in this day and age to really stir things up and make a difference?
August 21, 2008 : 1:20pm Election 2004? We Took That Shit Too.
For some reason I was looking through my archives and came across the Fuck New York spot from August 2004. The republican convention was about to go down in NYC and this short film was created...
So on point and perfect.
At that time I was convinced that Kerry would wipe the floor with Bush that November. I mean, hell, Bush lied about Iraq, as a nation we were hated across the globe, people were still reeling from 911...no question, right?
Well, here we are in 2008. Right now every one is high on Obama and seem quick to call this thing in November over. Now there are a few polls that have McCain leading. It's that close. I'm not calling this one yet. The America public as a whole are a constant source of disappointment. Why should this time be any different?
"If you got shit I want, Ima gonna take it. What happened to Florida? We took it. What happened to Iraq? We took that shit too. Now what's up?"
What's up indeed...
(Note: In searching for this piece, I found this on glen E. friedman's You Tube page. All his videos and favorites are worth a watch)
August 19, 2008 : 4:03pm Clyde's Pontiac.
Clyde's wagon made the 10 Hot Cars From Bonneville Speed Week 2008: Pre-Race Gallery. Great to see him getting some coverage. Damn, I wish I was there...
August 19, 2008 : 1:59pm FTP List.
Dave Carnie is rad. Big Brother. Great interviews in The Skateboard Mag. Solid web junk. His wife is cut from the same cloth. They've got a new food based blog entitled Food On Drunk and has posted a FTP (Fuck This Place) list. Portland has two entries. I can't help but agree with her negative take on the Doug Fir. It's cool looking but over-priced, over-hipster and offer no vegan food AT ALL. I'm guessing that might be a plus for these two...
"The Doug Fir in Portland, OR.
Retarded hipster bar with overpriced, watered down drinks. It's attached to one of the crappiest hotels ever, too. One late night, they wouldn't allow Nieratko and his wife in to eat because the bouncer saw that they had beers in their hands that they had brought from their room. Even when they threw the beers away (and couldn't buy anymore because it was 3am) they were still denied entrance. I went there for lunch the next day and ordered a grilled cheese with tomato soup. They fucked it up. They fucked up the most basic dish on the planet. How the fuck can you ruin cheese, bread and pureed tomatoes? Well, it was burnt, on the wrong bread and the soup was basically chunky salsa with basil in it. And then the waiter was a condescending asshole. Way to go Doug Fir, you suck. Fuck that place."

For the record I've found a few decent places. It's no San Francisco...but, yeah.
August 15, 2008 : 11:54pm My Good Luck Streak Continues.
Remember that new car from a few posts down? Well here it is now...
Last night at 6pm, driving down 39th Ave at 15mph in the right lane when a Toyota truck just decides to cross into my lane and rams right into the drivers side, crunching and scaping down the side of the car. A young man in a sideways trucker hat, oversize sunglasses and fucking flip-flops steps out of the 'Yota. "Dude, that's such a nice car, bro...jeeez, so sorry...my Dad's gonna be pissed." His truck was barely scratched.
Never in my life have I been so close to punching someone. I literally had to 'take a time out' and walk around for a bit before calming down enough to take down the docuhebag's information. Add the fact that it was 105 degrees outside and I had a screaming 9 month old in my carseat.
Ten days from purchase to partial destruction. A new record.
August 13, 2008 : 9:25pm Off.
This morning the cast came off and the pins were pulled out. Strangely enough pulling the cast off hurt more than the pulling of the pins. Now I'm nursing a very stiff thumb and wrist. They are loosening up slowly but surely...
The cast pre-saw...
My hand with the pins pre-pull. This time hurt the most as when I moved my hand and fingers the pins moved around...
Finally my hand a few hours after the pull. Sore, puffy and a tad bloody.
August 11, 2008 : 1:31pm 2008 Gumball 3000.
As I've mentioned before, the Gumball 3000 has basically turned into a crummy rave with cars for C list celebrities and rich kids (it only costs $120,000 per team/car this year, a bargin). The 2008 Gumball started in San Francisco on Friday...on continues to LA, Vegas, Sandiego and then onto North Korea and China.
That being said I still follow the damn thing a little and the best coverage I've found is over at GT Spirit. They've got a pretty complete list of team and cars and it's a sickening celebration of excess and bad paint jobs. The exception being Team #050 with a matte black Ford GT. Amazing. And Team #035 with the Original Bandit Trans Am takes second.
I've been slamming the 'horns' as a poor choice for the official hand gesture of metal for quite some time and yet I was unaware of the newest metal pose, the "Invisible Orange". The torch has been passed.
How is it that I'm so out of touch with the current metal hand trends? I feel so foolish.
Shamed is more like it. To make up for this I've recently had a new family portrait taken.
Why isn't the kid in corpse paint? Come on, that's just taking things too far.
Where I learned of all this, The Invisible Oranges site has some great metal writing...and yes, I mentioned this just a few posts ago. And I'll most likely mention it again.
