Although I don't intend to turn this site into a pure MP3 blog, I have been thinking more and more about posting music on a regular basis.

With that idea in mind, I give you my Top 6 (66) Halloween Metal Picks. I've been trying to come up with a group of songs that really sound evil (or did the time I first heard them). I really don't find an music all that frightening, but you get the idea.

1. Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Dead Battery (1:00 - 1.1mg)
A good place to start, as this is a pretty creepy grindcore track. Anyone know where this sound bite is pulled from? I wish all of AN's albums were as solid as 'Frozen Corpses Stuffed With Dope'. Their newer, quicker stuff is too short and don't have the song structure found on this album.

2. Darkthrone - Over Fjell Ogg Gjennom Torner (2:29 - 2.8mgs)
Yeah, Battory, Burzum, and Mayhem might have been the first pure black metal groups out of Norway, but for my money Darkthrone had the sound the most dialed. Quick, slugdy, lo-fi and dark...these guys were 'True Norwegian Black Metal' as the 'Transilvanian Hunger' album has printed across the back cover. You know you were creeped out the first time you heard this band.

3. Slayer - Live Undead (3:51 - 4.3mgs)
Of course I had to include Slayer. One of my favorite tracks from 'South Of Heaven', this features one of the fastest guitar solos I've ever heard. With lyrics like 'Intense pain eats away at your brain, Thorazine pumping through your veins' this qualifies as quite the evil track.

4. Cradle Of Filth - Hell Awaits ( 5:42 - 6.5mgs)
England's Cradle of Filth cover Slayer's classic. Yeah, COF have gotten soft as of late, but this is a great song, a black metal horror film score...with the backwards looped track and opera singing in the beginning really taking it over the top. And that voice screaming 'Hell Awaits'? Perfect.

5. Carcass - Corporal Jigsore Quandary ( 5:48 - 6.6mgs)
If don't own EVERY Carcass album, you should be ashamed of yourself. This track from their classic 'Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious' is essential. Four vegetarian guys who did gore so well they tricked the masses into thinking they were medical students
.

6. Weakling - The Entire Fucking Battlefield ( 14:47 - 16.9mgs)
I'm guessing this SF based black metal band doesn't REALLY worship the devil but they could have fooled me. The most evil vocals of all time. Period. Hands down. This song is an epic at 15 minutes but worth every second. Absolutely amazing, and at points, completely terrifying. Damn.

Enjoy.

- If you're a metal fan, 'Three Days Of Darkness' is happening in SF this weekend. I plan to attend Saturday night at the Elbo Room with gore metal masters Exhumed and black metal rulers Ludicra. Damn good line up.

- Morrissey/Smiths cover band Sweet and Tender Hooligans will also be playing this Saturday at the House Of Blues in Anaheim. Why the hell won't they play up here? C'mon, just one night....I know at least a few people who would go...

- Congratulations to the Bush administration for reaching 2000 dead American soldiers in Iraq. It seems like only yesterday that it was 1,000 dead. Way to go Bush...HOW FUCKING MANY HAVE TO DIE FOR YOU GROW A BRAIN. Still no weapons of mass destruction in case everyone lost count. What the fuck...

- Oh, I see...you guys are busy reading The Onion. Understandable, I mean...that shit IS funny.

+ Sunday, October 23th, 8:48pm +

- Although there was an actual Spyder 500 at the Vintage Porsche Show this afternoon, I was more interested in the replicas there. There's NO WAY I'll ever own a real 550 but a replica...maybe. One day...one day.

- I sometimes forget that if you don't skate for long enough, you pretty much have to start from stratch.

- I'm almost ready to buy...I just need to pull the trigger and spend the cash.

Scientology is fucking insane. Period.

If you don't know what these people believe in take a look at this Time Magazine cover story from back in 1991. This flash cartoon gives an even quicker, humorous overview. Yes, it's silly, but the facts are true. Xenu.net (name taken from the alien leader in the church's writings) is a great resource as well.

Alien souls released during their execution by hydrogen bombs 75 million years ago are living inside us? Seriously? And Jason Lee believes this shit? Bummer.

I can't imagine ANYONE watching Frontline tonight, The Torture Question, and NOT being ashamed of the United States and it's leadership. It's simply stunning. It's chilling to see Rumsfeld's personal notes on the paperwork throwing all the rules of the Geneva Conventions out the window. The man is a fucking liar and didn't even have the spine to admit to green lighting the prisoner abuse at both Guantanamo and ultimately Abu Ghraib.

- Congratulations go out to our friends across the pond, Sam and Claire, on their engagement over the weekend. Insert Simpsons quote here.

- Happy Birthday (officially yesterday) to Mr. Chad 'Food Fight!' Miler. See you this weekend...

- Woman tattoos Web address on forehead. 'Tattoo artist Don Browse said he and his staff spent nearly seven hours Wednesday trying to talk Smith out of putting 'GOLDENPALACE.COM above her face'. I'm beside myslef on this one. Ten grand? That's it? I wouldn't do it for 10 million. People are stupid.

- Banned In DC is a new site 'dedicated to documenting the Washington DC hardcore scene'. It seems like some of my flyers posted on my little DC feature somehow got included on their 'flyer' section. The exact files. Interesting.

Although I had Cave In's new record 'Pitch Black' up on the left there...I really couldn't get into it. When I heard they brought back the screaming and harsher sound, I was stoked. I tried, really I did, but none of the songs stuck with me. Oh well, they did record some great albums. It did remind me just how good 'Until Your Heart Stops' really was. Listen to Juggernaut again....that shit is insane.

After listening to the MP3 of 'cut their grain and place fire therein' by the band Weakling for a few months I finally bought their full length entitled, Dead As Dreams. Weakling were a San Francisco based black metal band featuring members of The Fucking Champs.

Holy fucking shit.

I've been listening to black metal for a while favoring Emperor, old Cradle Of Filth, and Darkthrone among others. Burzum doesn't really do it for me, and although Mayhem are important as a band...their early recordings were flat out awful. Their new stuff is terrible.

Which brings me to Weakling. I have to say, these guys destroy them all. Each song is an epic, over 10 minutes long. This allows both long drawn out heaviness as well as spastic, tight solos. The vocals are the most chilling I have ever heard and the keyboards actually add to the overall sound. Many black metal bands claim to be fueled by the devil, but these guys truly sound evil. I mean that in a good way. I'm excited to check out the other releases on Tumult, a local label that also relased another SF black metal legend, LEVIATHAN. If you like this sort of thing, go to their website and grab some MP3s...you won't be disappointed.

Or skip it and just buy Dead As Dreams as soon as possible. The song 'This Entire Fucking Battlefield' is now on my short list of favorite metal songs ever.

This afternoon I went and checked out Jimmy's Old School Picnic in Golden Gate Park. I was surprised how packed it was. Hundreds and hundreds of cars. It was certainly the largest number of hot rods and rat rods I've even seen.

For a while I was looking to get a rat rod as I've always been a huge fan of them.Although, I don't think I could cut it as a straight up hot rod guy. I don't have the hair or tattoos for it. Here's are some photos I took...

We are very sad to report the passing of Charlie, best friend to Bryce and Donna. Charlie was sweet, gentle, and talented. He will be missed.

huh?® We Do Stuff™
- This is great. This isn't too far from the wording of actual marketing website out there. Perfect.

More traveling this month as I'm off to NYC this week, and then up to Portland on the 15th. That's a lot of frequent flier miles.
