From Run's House...

Jay's like King Midas, as I was told,
everything that he touched turned to gold.
He's the greatest of the great, get it straight he's great.
Claim fame cause his name is known in every state.
His name is Jay to see him play will make you say:

"God damn, that DJ made my day!"

Jam Master Jay / Jason Mizell 1965-2002

'Jam Master Jay, a founding member of the pioneering rap trio Run DMC, was shot and killed at his recording studio near the New York neighborhood where he grew up, police said.'

Raising Hell was one of the first albums that really had an impact on me. I'd listen to it day in and day out back in 1986. I wasn't alone...without Run DMC there would be no Hip Hop scene at all in popular music. Chuck D from Public Enemy once said that without Run DMC there would be no Public Enemy.

l Tuesday - October 29 - 8:45pm l

The new BMW film The Hostage is good. Make sure that if you have the bandwidth you download the 'Enhanced Version'. And I do mean bandwidth...110mg download.

A Flash version of my one my favorite games, Adventure for the Atari 2600. (Although it is a bit different...it's still damn cool.)

l Sunday - October 27 - 7:00pm l

Bowling for Columbine
is the best film of the year. Not just because I think Michael Moore is amazing, but because now more than ever this film should be manditory viewing by all Americans. Never does Moore tell you what to think, but instead he educates. I can't recommend this movie enough...as they say,"If you see only one movie this year..' Seriously.

View some clips here. Then find out where you can see the movie and go. Right now.

Jackass grossed 22.7 million this weekend
. And I do mean grossed. Tremaine, Spike are Knoxville are gonna be rolling in it.

Also, I added some new songs to the Playlist. A new Foo Fighters song and classic Slayer. Enjoy.

l Saturday - October 26 - 5:41pm l

Caught Jackass the movie last night. Damn funny. My guess is that hair clipper sales are going to go WAY up.

l Friday - October 25 - 11:46am l

As I sit here in the god damn South Bay DEVO is playing a free show in San Francisco. I hate not working in the city. I will now listen to 'Out of Sync' in my headphones and weep softly at my desk...

l 11:46am l
Democratic Sen. Paul Wellstone, one of the foremost liberals in Congress, was killed in a plane crash in northern Minnesota.

Sen. Wellstone and his family were all lost in the crash.

We have lost one of the only TRUE liberals in the Senate. Wellstone voted earlier this month against legislation to authorize the use of force in Iraq — the only Democrat in a current competitive race to go against Bush on the issue. Unbending until the end...

He will be missed on many levels.

I haven't laughed this hard since Icy Hot Stuntaz.

You must visit Black People Love Us! now. Funniest site of the year...the photos bring tears to my eyes.
(Found on Raymi's site)

"BAM!! This is how we do it!"

l Wednesday - October 23 - 8:23am l

Quoted from Noel Gallagher of Oasis:

He described US teenagers as "little immature idiots" who would "buy anything".

"You'll buy any old nonsense. Britney Spears and Eminem. What's all that about?"

"Actually, you shouldn't be able to buy records until your 16," he said.

Hee hee...that damn drunken brit is spot on.

Also, if anyone happens to have a ticket to the sold out Foo Fighters show at Slim's tonight (sold out in 72 seconds) and needs a kidney...I'm down for a trade.

l Tuesday - October 22 - 9:38am l

Instead of giving my thoughts on the whole sniper case, I'll just pull a few paragraphs from my good friend Andrew's recent email. Andrew lives in Northern Virgina / DC border and drives to Maryland each day for work (and has lived in the DC area for many years):

"People here are freaking out about the sniper but I try to not let it affect me at all.  I haven't changed any of my daily routine and I don't plan to.  The odds are so remote anyway but fuck that shit.  If it's my time then it's time to check out.

I hear stories of school closings and people running from their cars in a zig-zag pattern and that's out of control.  Americans are such pussies it's unbelievable.

It's so overblown-it's not bad at all although it took me 2.5 hours to drive to work today b/c of these checkpoints they established all over the beltway this morning-basically, NOBODY is moving on the highway.  It's literally a parking lot."

l Sunday - October 20 - 6:11pm l

First off, CONGRADULATIONS to our good friends Julie and Dan for the delivery of their twin girls Katie Michele and Leah Marie McKechnie! Dan's love and Julie's strength is truly inspiring.

OK, maybe I jumped the gun a little with the Maserati.

This afternoon I bought a 2000 Honda Insight. I actually test drove one a few weeks back, and it was the original commute car choice for obvious reasons (58+ miles per gallon). The idea of paying the cost of Maserati service on a 150K car was just...well, ridiculous. The Honda is so damn cool. I'm looking forward to connecting my iPod to listen to while I 'Hybrid' myself to work and become the ultimate future-tech geek.

l Saturday - October 19 - 6:11pm l

This morning I test drove a red 1987 Maserati Biturbo. Yeah, it has 150K miles, but damn it, it's quite a car. When I was in high school a rich friend had one and even though it didn't look that cool (pretty mellow design) it was fast and ITALIAN. My offer is in, and I'll find out tomorrow. I'd like nothing more than to spend the long morning drive behind the wheel of the Biturbo. Parts...well, let's hope nothing goes wrong if I get it.

l Friday - October 18 - 10:07am l

The Promise Ring have broken up. Boys with black horn-rimmed glasses and tight thift-store shirts weep openly as girls with lunch box purses listen to another Smiths album for comfort.

Actually, they used to be an amazing band. Their early live shows were super fun and almost always entertaining. The new album just didn't do it for me...and then that 'rockstar' show in May just sunk them.

l 9:06am l
After putting it off for a few months, I finally finished up the How's Your Edge site redesign. It still has some pretty rough edges, but overall I'm pretty pleased. Yes, my edge has NOT gone dull. It was a fun project, and I was stoked to support the 'scene' (whatever that means anymore).

Also, PLEASE check out the new Michael Moore film Bowling For Columbine.

Lindy Three is growing...

BMW Films is back for season 2, THE HIRE. Check out the trailer for Hostage, directed by John Woo.

l Tuesday - October 15 - 8:39am l

Yet another brilliant Onion article.

I think I agree more with Frank and less with Bob on the whole horn issue. I mean, it was REALLY annoying.

Sometimes I just want to take a long weekend and get full sleeves by Aaron Cain or Mike Giant...

Mike Ness was once asked by an older woman in a grocery check-out line,"Why do you have those awful tattoos?". He replied,"To separate myself from people like you."

l Monday - October 14 - 8:49am l

I don't have the time to update the columns on the left, but I did add two new songs to the Playlist. I picked up the new Ben Folds Live CD as well as Botch's swan song, An Anthology of Dead Ends. Both amazing. Check out song from each in the Playlist section.

Skating at the Berkeley park yesterday morning was super fun. The crowd is starting to die down, and the pop of a new board feels good.

l Thursday - October 10 - 11:14am l

Thursday Three...(seems like the easier the questions, the more the responses...and no one wants to talk about lying or think too hard...bring on TV!)

Do you believe the general public spends less time watching television time due to time spent online? Yeah, sure. Online you can choose from millions of 'channels' and topics. Broadband will only make it more interesting to the general public. It's important to remember that the public at large (most of the midwest) is still crawling on 14.4, and that's if they have a PC AND connection at all.

Do you feel that surfing or creating for the Internet has taken from your television viewing time? Is that a good or bad thing? It does take from my TV time. That's a good thing. Instead of watching TV for content collection (that and relaxing)...you can create your own content...that's how I look at it. So many choices online compared to TV. I still waste a lot of time on TV though...

Have many hours of television do you watch per week? Hmmm...3 hours at night during the week at most. Maybe an hour or so more on the weekends. Let's say around 24 a week. Shit, that's an entire day. Don't ask how much time I spend in front of a computer monitor. I'll get depressed. Favorite show? The Simpsons, Seinfeld,
The Andy Griffith Show, SNL, Monster Garage, The Daily Show, Scrubs, Square Pegs, and so on...

l Wednesday - October 9 - 3:45pm l

For the last two days I've been dealing with Jury Duty.

Big fun. I was picked as an alternate juror yesterday and then went in and sat there today. Lucky for me the trial was short and I got to leave early. I still lost two valuable days of work. It was sort of interesting as it was a tenant vs. landlord civil case based in the Mission. The landlord had a lawyer and the poor Mexican tenant represented himself. I hate lawyers...that's for sure. This guy was as terrible at his job as he was slimey. It was a trainwreck from both sides. Hard to watch someone try to defend themselves in broken english with 'objections' being thrown at every turn.

Back to work tomorrow...thank goodness.

l Tuesday - October 8 - 8:44am l

Last night...Dillinger Escape Plan and Icarus Line at the Pound SF.

I was actually interested in seeing Icarus Line as I had heard good things and their LP isn't half bad. As soon as they hit the stage...all Strokes/Vines/Hives in appearance it was the beginning of a losing battle. Someone shouted "We love you Iggy" and everyone laughed. And they stunk. Big time stunk. The guitar player had some energy..but that singer? Weak. All that 'we smashed up the Hard Rock Vegas' punk hype for nothing. Pure crap.

Dillinger Escape Plan do it again. They just destroy. Starting with 'Sugar Coated Sour' it was nonstop. Chris Pennie is one of the best drummers I've ever seen. Perfect in every way. Razor sharp. Greg Puciato took over vocals duties a while back with no vocal experience and continues to amaze me. He sang almost every song from the Mike Patton / Dillinger project and sounded perfect. I say ALMOST every song as Mike Patton joined the band for their cover of Aphex Twin's 'Come To Daddy'. I was actually hoping for Patton to sing a more challenging song from their EP...but it was pretty good. As always Dillinger closed with '43% Burnt' which is one of my favorite songs of all time. Each time I've seen them in the past, the song ends with someone blowing fire. This time vocalist Puciato carried a huge flaming torch across the stage and into the crowd for the entire length of the song, ending the song by blowing masive flames into the crowd and on to the ceiling. Unreal.

They plan to be back in SF in a few months.

l Monday - October 7 - 8:50am l

Born Against are the punkest band of all time. Go here, here and here...

l Sunday - October 6 - 7:36pm l

This weekend Jessica and I were fortunate enough to attend the wedding of our good freinds Phil and Leslie. It was a very moving ceremony and an overall great time.

Good luck and happiness to you both.

l Thursday - October 3 - 9:11am l

You may have noticed my days were all messed up...that's how it's been lately. Too busy to know the day of the week. It's Thursday now right?

This is pretty good.

Thursday Three.

1) What do you lie about? From what I can remember...little white lies here and there. I lied to the first guy who came and looked at my mototrcycle last week. I told him I had two offers pending when I hadn't even received any. He never got back to me anyway.

2) Why do you lie? (And don't say you never do, liar!) To put myself in a better position. Or get out of a difficult situation. That's why everyone lies. I suppose some people enjoy lying...but that seems rare. I was always puzzled when I would hear people tell huge whoppers on a daily basis (Shane Yerkes and George 'the Squire' Singley come to mind). After a while it was obvious they were big fat liars and they lost much more than they gained.

3) When is okay to lie? Or, is it never okay to lie? Who knows...it's too early for this question. I do know that if you are the President, you really shouldn't lie to the American people on a daily basis. But hey...he gets away with it...so go for it America! Lie away! It's the American way!

I'm off to a wedding until Sunday. Then it's Dillinger Escape Plan / Icarus Line on Monday night...

l Wednesday - October 3 - 9:40pm l

Tony Hawk and Kelly Slater are the latest additions to the Apple Switch campaign. I happen to know (from a reliable source) that Tony was WAY more into his Commodore Amiga when most people were already rocking Macs.

That's a big 10-4...Fat Truckers Union is a damn impressive site. So much to check out and discover.

l Tuesday - October 1 - 1:05am l

I'm not buying a new car...I want a new bike. So buy my current bike now.
