Philip
Meggs has passed away. An amazing designer, writer, and teacher. He
will be greatly missed.

Here's a great article about the sorry
state of McDonalds. It contains some good insight by Eric Schlosser
author of Fast
Food Nation (now in paperback) and a bit on the Beef Tallow settlement.
Seems like the end may be near for the Golden Arches.
How about some more veggie links?
- A great Flash cartoon
about Voluntary Meat Regulation
- Interview with vegan BMX

Yup, the
moron and his administration are on a roll.
Now he's helping Utility, Coal, and Oil dismantle
clean air programs. I mean, it's only
the air we breath right? And those corporations PAID for the changes in
the clear air rules. They bought it with over 10 million in campaign contributions.
Fucking great.
l Thursday - November 21 - 12:58pm l
I've been sick. Really sick. Imagine hardcore food
poisoning including a high fever and the chills. Tuesday night was a living
hell. A huge amount of people at the office are sick. In fact, they are
investigating the cafeteria food to see if anything might have somehow
been responsible for the 'outbreak'. My guess is that it's just a serious
stomach flu. Not fun.
In other news, the Homeland
Security bill passed, and NATO
is divided on the issue of war in Iraq.
THIS
IS GENIUS. What a real AOL commerical should be.
l Monday - November 18 - 9:15am l
Since the elections a few weeks back, Bush has made
it one of his top priorities to pass the Homeland Security Act. In case
you were wondering what this means, take a quick look at this link, 'You
are a suspect'. Under this bill Hackers
could face life in prison. Murders rarely get life...sounds fair enough.
Worried? You should be.
l 9:15am l
There are perks when you work at a large dot com
company...cool name badge, free
soy lattes, cheap branded umbrellas,
and sometimes use of the company's Mini
Cooper S for the weekend.
Overall, it's a nice ass car. The interior had all
the sweet BMW features like heated seats, steering wheel radio controls,
simple climate system. etc. And the little car can move. It doesn't take
long to get into 6th gear, that's for sure.
What I did learn is that if it's nice weather outside
I'd rather be on my motorcycle than in any car...even one with a huge
sunroof. Also, if you drive for over an hour and a half everyday during
the week you want to stay far away from driving during the weekend.
Oh, and the 27K pricetag is too much. I'll stick with my Insight.

EBay has a sort of redesign test up.
l Thursday - November 14 - 8:13am l
Exitwound
has a great new redesign. I really like the Weekly
List idea. I'm planning a major design and content change in 2003.
Unpluggedtv.com. Go right now
and check out digital creation Ulf in the three Episodes of Kornspiracy
Korner. He will haunt your dreams. The Flash work is stunning and I was
crying by the end of Episode 1 : The strange case of Ouchy the Clown.
Better than anything on television right now, that's for sure. Strangely
enough, Episode 2 features ex Swell Art Director and action
sports designer Jamie Muehlhausen talking about his site Men
Who Look Like Kenny Rogers.

Uneventful weekend. I tried to skate the Berkeley
park Sunday morning and it was locked up due to three inches of water
in the bottom of the bowl. Great. I should have driven to Vans.
Sunday night we saw Comedian
and I was very impressed. The beginning had pretty poor sound quality,
but once you got used to the whole digital video format it was very entertaining.
A great look inside the way comedy is created and presented. Worth a viewing.
l Thursday - November 7 - 8:05am l
Show last night at Slim's:
The Blood Brothers really
thought that with two vocalists you wouldn't notice how much they ripped
off At The Drive In. They had some catchy emo meets hardcore riffs, but
it was just a bit too trendy. Singer number 1 please keep your shirt on.
Time in Malta were flat out
awful. I really like their records, especially their early stuff, but
they were boring and weak. Bummer. American Nightmare are fucking hardcore.
Flat out
assault on the audience. Bass players freaking out and jumping into
the crowd, the singer spin kicking onto the floor and leading sing-a-longs.
I knew nothing about the headlining band, Glassjaw,
but there was an interesting crowd for them. Man, did their fans go nuts
with buying merch. The few guys I was standing near were SUPER pissed
that the bands took so long to set up and when AN played they looked like
they had seen a ghost.
There is some heated political talk going on over at Redshifter. I've
got to hand it to Raphy
Orangefuzz. Defending the NRA, Jerry Faldwell, and Bush while bashing
Michael Moore(on his site). Wow.
l Wednesday - November 6 - 9:15am l
I'm going to see Amercian
Nothing (formerly American Nightmare) and Time
in Malta at Slim's tonight. I'm expecting a damn good hardcore show.
I also expect to be the oldest person there.
Speaking of hardcore...an old Four
Walls Falling shirt just went for 89.88 on Ebay! I wonder how much
my Four Walls Mt.RushCORE shirt is worth? Over a hundred for sure as that
sucker is rare, rare, rare. I'm not accepting offers under a grand.
l 7:53am l
I'm
moving to Canada.
l Tuesday - November 5 - 8:17am l
I've
never been a Nirvana fan. I saw so much going on in the D.C. music scene
at the time I just didn't get what was so special about them.
Also, suicide is the act of a coward (he had a daughter and more options
than 99% of the population).
That being said, this is a great
article about the release of Kurt Cobain's journals as a book next
week. I agree that it's a very distasteful and disrespectful thing to
do. Cobain was completely against sharing his private journals...even
going as far as saying, 'The most violating thing I've felt this year
is not the media exaggerations or the catty gossip, but the rape of my
personal thoughts'. It's disgusting that his wife would go against her
dead husband's wishes.
Anyway, there are some excerpts from the book here
as well.
l Monday - November 4 - 8:48am l
Chances are if you visit my site you visit Redshifter.
And if you visited RS in the last few days you would have seen the news
on the new Sunny Day Real Estate spin off band The
Fire Theft and the link to the download of their new song ' It's
Over'. So the bottomline here is that I'm not telling you anything
you don't already know.
The song is amazing by the way. So go get it.
l Sunday - November 3 - 3:08pm l
Yup, I'm a few days late on November. Sorry about
that.
Tony Hawk 4 is simply the best video game ever created. The improvements
from the last game include free-form levels (no time limit and multiple
challenges)and MUCH better music (Avail. Sex Pistols, Public Enemy, AC/DC).
It's impressive that Activision can keep improving the game even after
4 versions. I still want a 720
arcade machine though...
I'm off to try to get a better cell-phone...and I have a bad head-ache.
Shuld be a great combination.
