Panic
Room is a hell of a good movie...not exactly what I expected from
David Fincher, but it was certainly entertaining. Next up this weekend,
Death
To Smoochy.
l Thursday - March 28 - 9:45am l
On
Sunday legendary Nor Cal Schimitt Stix skater Joe Lopes was killed in
a car accident. I learned Japan Airs off my launch ramp on his 'BBQ'
model back in 1988. R.I.P.
l Wednesday - March 27 - 11:35am l
When
I sold my old iMac last week, I transfered a number of files from it that
had been sitting a while. Included in those were all my past Neckdeep.com
web blog entires. I have now added them to the archives for your reading
pleasure. Take a look.
It's crazy to re-read some of those...from Echo to HardCloud. Sort of
fitting that I'm posting those entries now.
l Monday - March 25 - 10:25am l
Chilling.
Go here
to buy the new From Monument To Masses CD.
It's finally out and it rocks. I had the pleasure of catching them again
on Saturday night. It doesn't get much better.
In other 'punk rock' news, the Icarus Line caused a bit
of trouble at the Hard Rock Cafe last week. Guitar player Aaron North
smashed a glass case containing a Steve Ray Vaughan guitar and attempted
to plug n' play before getting rushed by security (watch the video). Pretty
damn punk if you ask me. In a place where punk rock is sold for quarters
(Sex Pistols and Nirvana slot machines!) it's good to see someone fuck
it up for real. The Hard Rock Cafe is evil anyway.

As
always Ben Folds put on a great show last night. It was amazing the energy
that he brought to the crowd with just a piano. I was having a shitty
day on top of a shitty week, and man did seeing him cheer me up. Good
thing I have a second dose on Monday night.
On a less than postive note, most of the crowd at the Fillmore last night
needs to read The
Buddyhead Rules for Audiences of Rock. The VERY FIRST rule was broken
WAY too many times:
"1) Don't sing if you aren't one of the dudes on stage
getting paid to do it. Nobody paid their hard-earned money to hear
your dorky, untalented ass sing. We came to hear the dudes on stage sing.
Paying 40 bucks to go see Tool, but instead of hearing Maynard, you get
the dorkus malorkus with mad zits standing next to you singing "Sober"
really loudly and out of key in your ear is enough to murder mother fuckers
for."
Ben Folds was playing with just a piano. It's quiet, so SHUT UP! The fat,
balding man who kept yelling the lyrics right before they were sung was
enough to drive me to drink. Also, if you plan of macking your new date
with love talk the whole two hours, SAVE YOUR 25 BUCKS AND GO SOMEPLACE
ELSE. Shut the hell up and listen, or get out.
It was still an amazing show...I look forward to Monday. I hope all the
ticket holders somehow see this posting...
l Friday - March 22 - 4:16pm l
The
Tombstone
Vista Series DVD is damn good.
And screw E.T.
I don't want "never-before-seen footage, state-of-the-art computer
generated enhancements, and a digitally remixed soundtrack." I want
directors to stop screwing with already complete movies...George Lucas
I'm looking in your direction as well. Spielberg is just cashing
in.
l Thursday - March 21 - 3:05pm l
Good call on all the guilty
charges. Having a dog (or dogs) is a responsibility and a privilege...not
to mention all the shady issues (racism, homophobia, etc). Her lawyer
should also go to jail....freak.
l 8:00am l
Every night this weekend is booked. Ben
Folds Friday, From Monument
To Masses Saturday, Pretty
Girls Make Graves Sunday, and finally a second Ben Folds show on Monday.
That's a lot of live music...but I'm ready for the rockin'.
In related news I had a dream that I went hiking with Ben Folds and he
got lost...weird.

Twenty
years ago today
guitarist Randy Rhodes was killed in a tragic airplane accident while
buzzing Ozzy's tourbus. He was 25 years old.

The
vegan/vegetarian vs. meat eater battle is often a fierce one. This Wahington
Post article gives the veggies a chance to answer some key questions
about being a plant eater in a society of carnivores.
l Friday - March 15 - 9:25am l
I
learned two things while at the vet with Kato yesterday:
1. I just don't like cats - they are generally mean and
don't give a shit about anyone but their owners.
2. I just don't like people - OK, not all people...in this
case cat owners with designer turtleneck sweaters and Gucci sunglasses
talking on their 'Britney' cell phone headsets at the same time they check
in their cat 'Muffins' for acting 'down'. Cat owners in general make me
cringe...but the people there yesterday raised the bar.
Yes, I'm all about animals and animal rights...but that doesn't mean I
have to like cats. I support human rights and hate some people...same
thing.
l Thursday - March 14 - 9:25am l
If
you don't have it yet, get up from your computer right now and go purchase
a copy of Stupid White Men by Michael
Moore. Or click here
right now. Amazing and terrible at the same time. If you had any positive
thoughts about George W Bush they will quickly be dismissed. I have never
had to put down a book and go on a walk to calm down from rage. Chilling.
We need to take back this country before George W. destroys everything.
Are you still reading? BUY!
But DON'T buy the Trail of Dead - Source Tags & Codes album I mentioned
yesterday. I was told by a close friend and Austin, TX local that they
are big fat jerks. Meaning they stole money from some friends among other
things. Luckily I 'stole' their MP3s. Use that money and buy
the Michael Moore book...and a Black Sabbath album or something.

"I
want to see those lesbians fight!" - Jessica watching the Real World
last night ( it happens to be before the Osbournes...we swear).
If you have a second, please take a look at The
Miniature Earth. It's quite an eye opener...
l Monday - March 11 - 1:49pm l
On Friday night I checked out Dead
Low Tide at The Bottom of the Hill. Being mostly ex-Murder City Devils
members, my expectations were WAY too high. I just didn't like them at
all. Sort of hardcore meets rock with one guitar and crazy bass...and
not in a good way. The songs just sounded unfinished and sloppy. Spencer's
voice just doesn't work for me without a wall of sound behind it. I think
the whole crowd was let down. In addition to that, they had the WORST
bands open for them. Just awful.
Frank and Dan's photo show Saturday night was nice (see
photos). I didn't stay for FMTM
due to the excessive cigarette smoke. Yes, we ARE spoiled in California,
and I'm damn happy about it.
As a joke I sent a few digital photos of my Simpsons collection to NoHomers.net.
It paid off. I am one of the featured 'collectors' on the site
this week. As a friend said,"You can throw in the towel now...
You've arrived."
l 9:28am l
I hate George W. Bush.
Listening to him speak this morning on this sixth month anniversary of
September 11th was enough to make bile creep up my throat. It disgusts
me that he has such a high approval rating simply because he sat in the
White House during this tragedy. Sure, he went swiftly to war
of
course he did. And while that was going on he quietly did a few other
things. He shut down almost every environmental bill proposed by Bill
Clinton. The man has the WORST environmental
record of ANY president. Take a look at the facts. Heres a man
who bends all rules for major oil companies, approves drilling in a national
monument, and is using the terrorist attack as an excuse to cut funding
at every level. Shall I mention how hes sweeping the ENRON shit-storm
under the rug? Bush gave ENRON founder Kenneth Lay an office
in the White House and appointed him "an adviser to the energy
department". Now he claims he barely knew Lay? He was given the ENRON
jet free of charge to campaign with. He flew to Chicago to watch Lay open
the ENRON ballpark! He gave them 750
million in tax breaks! And with all his talk today, lets not
forget who helped Mr.Bush start his first oil company
the
family Bin Ladin. He even flew the Bin Ladin family out of harms way
during the morning of September 11th. I could go on
about his death
penalty policy, his budget horrors, but its early and Im already
depressed.
I suppose we all should over look all this as he now helps us "remove
parasites" all over the world. I say we start with him, as he
should be fucking stepped on right now
l Thursday - March 7- 2:58pm l
Michael Moore is keeping a journal (aka weblog) throughout his current
book tour. Check
it out. He came to Berkeley but the tickets had sold out in minutes.

The
Osbournes is the only 'reality' TV worth watching. I haven't laughed
that hard in a very long time. The best reason to watch Mtv since Jackass.
l Wednesday - March 6 - 11:26am l
Tommy
Guerrero graces the cover of the GUARDIAN
this week (and the website
as well). Pretty good story with quotes from Bryce, Tony, and even Stacy
Peralta. Nice to see...
l Tuesday - March 5 - 9:25am l
I
went for a nice walk yesterday with my
dog.
l Monday - March 4 - 10:27am l
On
Saturday I finally caught The
Royal Tenenbaums. By far my favorite Wes Anderson film. I found it
to be clever, complex, and funny. Very well done. If you haven't seen
the website, you should...I checked it out again and was still blown away.
I was also lucky enough to get a box of videos and DVDs from On
Video Skate Magazine. It's great to see videos with a sense of history.
The Rodney Mullen section on the latest issue, winter 2002, is incredible...worth
seeing just for the early footage.
l Friday - March 1 - 11:56am l
I
find it harder and harder to find web sites interesting enough to place
in the 'FEATURED' box. Maybe I'm just losing faith in the internet or
something. If you want to send any suggestions...have
at it.
Email me any good blogs as well...I'm just not into too many lately. I'm
beginning to agree with Nanette
who wrote,"the thing about reading people's personal writing is that
it's only really fun if something BIG is going on." She then shut
down her blog. I've been feeling like doing that more and more. I'm pretty
damn boring. Still, this is MY journal and I suppose I get enjoyment in
looking back and having a chuckle every now and again. We'll see...
