ll Friday. August 31. 2001. 9:25am A movie you watched countless times on HBO as a kid usually isn't as good as you remember it. Case in point...Cannonball Run. It's no Smokey and The Bandit. Consider this a wake up call.
ll Wednesday. August 29. 2001. 3:49pm At lunch today I decided to go buy my Dad a birthday present and check out a few stores downtown. - Rasputin Records is now in SF. I wandered past the new store front and did a double take. Their store in Berkley is my favorite record store ever. Yeah, Ameoba on Haight Street comes close, but Rasputin's just rules it. Better Indie, Punk, and Metal selection by far. Anyway, they have opened up a smaller two level shop downtown across th street from Urban Outfitters (fuck that place). They didn't have what I was looking for, the new Rival Schools, but the idea of being able to go to a Rasputin's at lunch (like my Berkeley days) is exciting. - Screw Virgin...sort of. I only visit Virgin for magazines and the rare DVD purchase...and today was a rare DVD purchase. I grabbed one for my Dad, and got a deal on two others. A three for $30 deal. Not bad. I looked quickly to see if they had the Rival Schools CD and to my surprise they not only had it, but there was a dedicated listening station. My surprise turned to disgust as I saw the $18.99 price tag right next to the 'EX MEMBERS OF QUICKSAND & CIV'' sticker. There is no way in hell I'm going to pay that for a CD. I should have suspected as much from Island Records, home of Sum 41, Bon Jovi, and Lionel Richie. Maybe it'll be cheaper at Ameoba. Weak. - Picked up Martin and Kent Brockman at Jeffery's toys. My spending spree was over.

ll Monday. August 27. 2001. 1:56pm So I was wrong...the
Rival Schools United By OneLineDrawing EP is growing on me. 9:50am I also got the Rival Schools / OneLineDrawing split EP. I was really stoked for Rival Schools as Walter Schreifels from now gone Quicksand, one of my favorite bands, is on vocal duty. Also in the band is Ian Love from BURN fame, and Sammy Siegler who not only played in the crappy Gorilla Biscuits 'type' band CIV, but in every great straight-edge band. The EP is kinda lame...I can't tell what songs are Rival Schools and what are OneLine Drawing. Luckily the internet comes to the rescue. Go to the Rival Schools website and you can listen to every song from their new LP from Island Records (which is in stores tomorrow according to the site). These songs are dense, more in the Quicksand vein, and rocking hard. They also play SF in a few weeks.

August 20. 2001. 1:42pm On Saturday night I went with a group of friends to see comic Brian Regan perform at Cobb's Comedy club here in San Francisco. I was excited as Mr. Regan is extremely funny and the last few times I saw him I was very impressed. It's amazing how one rude person can ruin a night for me so easily. The woman sitting next to me was laughing SO LOUD that most of the club was more focused on her than the performer on stage. Screaming at the top of her lungs at every joke (good and bad) wasn't enough, she also had to repeat the punchline after EVERY joke as if the crowd didn't hear it. Her boyfriend was no better saying loudly, "Now THAT was funny." after she let out her howling scream/laugh. It was as if I was being slowly tortured. I tried to focus and enjoy the show, but couldn't. At one point Brian Regan made a error in his act and this women yelled out something, noticing his error. He then proceeded to make fun of her so badly the crowd was in tears. She was so clueless she continued laughing. I left the club so bitter it was hard for me to bite my tongue. A fun evening. In other news, Bob Burnquist is the greatest vert skater ever. If you haven't seen his final X-Games run go check EXPN for a TV schedule and watch. Unreal. It was fitting that as I watched in disbelief, I was holding a pack of ice on my swollen knee after bashing it at the ramp in the Vans park earlier that morning. Switch blunt to kickflip out!? On Vert?! Damn. ll

August 17. 2001. 3:15pm The Royal Tenenbaums. This is the most interesting and well designed website I've seen in ages. The flash works amazingly well, and the navigation just flat out rocks. The company behind the site, 65 Media, have done a bunch of solid work. This is where I see THREAT. in the next year or so. The movie looks pretty good too...
ll Wednesday. August 15. 2001. 9:23am On Saturday Jess and I took a hike with the dog in the Berkeley hills. The trails weren't that great, but the views were amazing. I get frustrated with my digital camera...but it's OK for large overview shots. It was cheap, so I got what I paid for.

August 14. 2001. 12:07pm I
should explain the Gonz comment below. Normally there are loud city workers out front, cars blocking the driveway, and pile driving. Today the office was fun. It was cool a client got to see it. This morning the city workers returned...back to normal.

August 13. 2001. 1:44pm The Gonz is stoked on my motorcycle. 9:47am After seeing a board go for 4,500 buck last week, I decided to sell an old Sims Lester I found at a flea market for three bucks. That's right...three bucks. It's only fair I have a 'Buy It Now' for 50 bucks. Just an experiment.

August 10. 2001. 4:43pm Just saw American Pie 2 at a sold out (!) 2:30 show. Quite predictable and some what stupid...but you can't help but laugh at Stifler. Some scenes were quite disappointing (the super glue masturbation thing featured in the commericals) but others were laugh out loud funny (Stifler's 'note' in the beginning of the film). It's only a teen sex comedy...so I got what I expected.

August 8. 2001. 10:47am It seems that Philadelphia is really excited about the X-Games. Especially the police. I wish cities would wake up and see the positive aspects of skating for once. Besides, if kids save their boards long enough, they might be able to sell it on EBay and make a down payment on a car.

August 4. 2001. 1:25pm On Tuesday, after posting my Aprilia RS50 for the third time, I received an email. Someone wanted to trade me for his motorcycle, a 89' Honda GB500 TT, a retro cafe racer. It was a great looking bike. Still, it was too good to be true. My bike was just 50cc, and this was a limited edition collector bike. This morning I helped him load up my Aprilia, and I drove to the office on my new Honda. It's loud as hell, like Tony's old Harley, and is super fun. I just need some new mirrors and I'm good to go. -- I caught Ghost World last night with Frank. A great, great film. It's about time. So much crap is being put out lately. Everyone should see this film. It's funny, smart, and intelligent. For those who have know me forever, they know I dated a girl EXACTLY like the main character, Enid. Her name was Jen Moss and it was one of the great mistakes of my High School years. Steve Buscemi is amazing , as is the entire cast...Bob Balaban as Enid's Dad, and Thora Birch as Enid. Highest rating...fuck normal Hollywood dribble, this is the real deal.

August 3. 2001. 2:19pm Threat just launched the Konami X-Games Skateboarding site. Go to espnthegames.com and click on the link of the left. Yeah, the link is sort of hidden, which sucks...but what can you do. I also updated the threatmedia* site with a new homepage image that threat took for the cover of the game.

August 1. 2001. 1:28pm This is great. More than few years back Razorfish was known as a great web design shop. Then it all went downhill. This is what happens when people become greedy and companies become bloated... 11:04am I've added the Top 50 list I did for Heckler Magazine. It was tough thing to do, but in the end I'm happy with it. If you disagree or think I left something out, send an email...I like to talk music. Speaking of Heckler mag, the guys over there have their book out now...it's called Declaration of Indepents and it's fucking amazing. As I'm writing this I'm looking at a advance copy. My partner Bryce has tons of photos, and it's worth it's price and then some. It's makes me proud to be a skater, and a small part of Heckler for these three plus years...
